GB QUEEN VITORIA 1841, 1d RED-BROWN, Sg.8, Pl.14, M-K, BASAL SHIFT (Ditto), Used
ABOUT THE STAMPS
GB QUEEN VICTORIA SG 8, Plate 14
Letters (Row & Column): M-K.
Row: M (The 13th row of the sheet).
Column: K (The 11th column of the sheet).
Imperforate: Cut from a sheet with scissors, as it predates official perforating machines introduced in 1854. This example has clear white margins on all 4 sides.
Plate Number: For early imperforate Penny Reds, the plate number is not printed on the stamp (unlike later perforated issues which display the plate numbers in the side lace work). Identifying exact plate helps stamp letters M-K where we have Basal Shift Ditto-Others). Die I issue (1841-1854) with unique right-touching letter M variety
Margins: The margins are nicely intact, all four margins
Cancellation Type: 1844-series Barred Numeral Obliterator.
Town of Origin: The numeral 79 identifies that this stamp was cancelled at the post office in Knowle, Warwickshire. It is a standard barred numeral obliterator rather than a circular date stamp (CDS).
Condition Factors: This stamp has excellent eye appeal due to full, intact margins on all sides. The only issue could be the cancellation is not clean.
