Design Type: Imperforate, without white lines. You can instantly verify that this is an original 1840 printing because it lacks the horizontal white lines above "TWO PENCE" and below "POSTAGE" that were added to all later versions starting in 1841.

Sheet Position Letters: S - B.

Row: 19th row (S is the 19th letter of the alphabet).

Column: 2nd column (B is the 2nd letter).

Plate Number: Plate 2.

Records show that on Plate 2, the letters S and T are punched noticeably lower in their squares than usual. Furthermore, right-hand letter B exhibits a distinct and pronounced misalignment (shifted up and to the right), which is an established characteristic of this specific position on Plate 2.

Misalignments “S and B”: The shifting of the letter B upward and right, and the low seating of the letter S, are plate varieties (positional flaws) rather than accidental errors. They occurred during the manufacturing of Plate 2 itself and appeared on every single sheet printed from it.

Letters on “TWO PENCE” looks like being “eaten” – not an official ERROR or variety.

Margins: The are all 4 margins as seen however margin on a right side of the stamp very close to the frame while on the left cross to the previous stamp. Still all 4 margins.

An exceptional pristine used stamp would fetch over £500.
