GB QUEEN VICTORIA 1841, 2d PALE BLUE, SG 13, Plate 3, P-K, Used
ABOUT THE STAMPS
GB QUEEN VICTORIA 2d PALE BLUE SG 13, Plate 3
Left Corner Letter: P
Right Corner Letter: K
Sheet Position: Like the Penny Black and early 2d blues, rows were lettered A through T (20 rows), and columns were lettered A through L (12 columns).
The letter P indicates the 15th row of the sheet.
The letter K indicates the 11th column of the sheet.
Plate Number: Plate 3.
Reasoning: Only Plates 3 and 4 were used for the 1841 imperforate issue with white lines. For the letter combination "PK" on Plate 3, the right letter "K" is a known "Gothic K" variety. Looking closely at the right box, the letter 'K' displays the characteristic fish-tail or gothic serifs unique to Plate 3 transfers.
Gothic K Variety: As mentioned, the "PK" position on Plate 3 exhibits a distinctively shaped "Gothic" style K.
Guidelines: There appears to be a faint horizontal guideline visible in the lower letter corners, which occurred during the manual plate-engraving process.
Margins: This stamp has nearly 3 clear margins (bottom, left, and right). However, the top margin is cut extremely close and slightly clips into the design frame line at the top right.
Cancellation: It features a numeral cancel №. 939, STAPLEHURST Post Office
Reverse (back of the stamp): The reverse shows that the ink has heavily saturated through the paper (a common trait of early blued paper used during this era).
