GB QUEEN VICTORIA 1858, 2d DEEP BLUE, Sg.47, Pl.15, SC-CS, Fine Used
ABOUT THE STAMPS
Country of Origin: Great Britain
Monarch: Queen Victoria (Chalon portrait head in profile)
Denomination: Two Pence
Stanley Gibbons SG 5, Plate 1(Specifically categorized under "Blue" or "Deep Blue" shades from 1840, without white lines)
Plate Position: I – E(Row 9, Column 5 on the original printing sheet of 240 stamps)
Line-engraved, printed on handmade small-crown watermarked paper, and issued imperforate(requiring the sheet to be cut by hand with scissors).
Numeral Cancels (Scarce "Late Uses"): Numeral postmarks (barrels/ovals with numbers identifying the town) weren't introduced until May 1844. Since Plate 1 was replaced by later plates long before 1844, you only see standalone numeral cancels on Plate 1 stamps if a member of the public held onto a stamp in a drawer for a few years and used it late. These late usages are highly prized by line-engraved specialists.
