Position on the Sheet:
On a giant printer's sheet of 240 stamps, "G" represents the 7th letter of the alphabet. This means stamp GG-GG
sat precisely at Row 7, Column 7
of the layout.
The "Square" Letter Match:
Because both the vertical row and horizontal column share the 7th position, all four corners of the stamp display the exact same letter ( G). Visually, these four identical corners create a satisfying symmetry that stands out compared to standard non-matching letter variants on the sheet.

The Scarcity:
Among the early 1858 corner-lettered plates (Plates 7, 8, 9, and 12), Plate 8 is noticeably scarcer
than Plates 7 and 9. It had a shorter production window, meaning fewer sheets were printed.
The Engraved Number:
To confirm its origin, look closely at the engine-turned lace borders running vertically on either side of Queen Victoria's face. The number 8
is finely engraved directly into the design on both the left and right pillars.
Thick White Lines:
Like Plate 9, Plate 8 features prominent, thick white horizontal lines located directly above "POSTAGE" and below "TWO PENCE".
