GB QUEEN VICTORIA 1855/64, 1d RED BROWN SG 43/44, Pl.100, HD-DH, Used
ABOUT THE STAMPS
Stanley Gibbons (SG) 43/44 Plate 100 is a standard Victorian line-engraved one-penny red stamp issued with letters in all four corners, but it holds a modest level of interest because it marks the boundary of the transition into the regular numbered plate series and features a few scarce printing errors.
Plate 100 sits near the end of the early experimental and transitional numbered plates (running roughly from plates 71 to 105 before the standard 1864 visible-plate-number design became ubiquitous across the whole range).
Single used copies are common and typically inexpensive, but mint condition copies or multi-block pieces command higher catalogue values (often £200+).
Specialist collectors occasionally seek out Plate 100 for dramatic listed varieties, such as the rare inverted watermark error..
