ST.LUCIA - BRITISH COLONY, LOT OF 72 STAMPS
ABOUT THE STAMPS
A lot of 72 vintage British Colony stamps from St. Lucia, you have found a wonderful piece of Caribbean postal history! St. Lucia issued its very first stamps in 1860 under British rule, and early collections are highly sought after.
The First Issues (1860-1883): The island’s first stamps featured a unique portrait of Queen Victoria. Surprisingly, they had no face value printed on them. People knew how much they were worth purely by their colour: red was 1 penny, blue was 4 pence, and green was 6 pence.
Key Plate Designs (1883 onward): St. Lucia switched to using standard "key plate" designs shared across various British colonies, which featured the ruling monarch’s portrait alongside the island's name.
Beautiful Pictorials (1936-1949): Under King George V and King George VI, St. Lucia released highly detailed local scenery designs, showcasing landmarks like Columbus Square and the famous Pitons volcanic mountains.IMPORTANT INFORMATION
