GB QUEEN VITORIA 1841, 1d RED-BROWN, Sg.8, Pl.12, J-I, 4MARGINS, Used
ABOUT THE STAMPS
It was printed and used during the early reign of Queen Victoria (between 1841 and 1854). Most everyday items from that era have long been destroyed.
Because it is an imperforate issue (cut with scissors rather than torn along perforated lines), stamp enthusiasts inherently value it much higher than later 1860s perforated Penny Reds, which were printed by the billions and are often worth pennies.
It has three excellent, wide borders on the top, left, and right sides, the bottom margin is very tiny but it is there. Many surviving stamps have their margins entirely chopped off on all sides.
Looking closely the stamp:
- The white border running vertically down the right edge is entirely clean.
- There are no unintentional red ink markings, streaks, or smudges alongside the "I" box.
- The line work forming the frame on the right side is sharp and uniform.
The stamp remains a highly collectible and crisp three-margin reference piece of Victorian postal history!
