GB QUEEN VICTORIA 1876, 10s GREY-GREEN Telegraph Stamp, SG T16, Plate 1, VFU
ABOUT THE STAMPS
Design & Plate: It features Queen Victoria's portrait enclosed within a large, intricate octagon pattern reading "TELEGRAPHS" across the upper slopes and "TEN SHILLINGS" along the base. The number 1 is engraved inside the small square panels at the top-left and top-right corners, designating it as Plate 1 .
Corner Check Letters: The lower square corners show the check letters "H - H" .
Cancellation: This specimen features a highly desirable, exceptionally crisp, and nearly complete Circular Date Stamp (CDS) cancel that reads "PADDINGTON / LONDON" . The date appears to read "MY 1 79"(May 1, 1879), matching its contemporary usage period.
Condition: This is a premium used condition specimen. Surface-printed high-value Victorian telegraphs are notoriously plagued by heavy, messy "boxed" or "bars" cancels that obscure the portrait. A clear, upright, face-free town CDS like this is a significant condition plus for collectors. The margins are sound, and the perforations are clean and fully intact.
