GB QUEEN VICTORIA 1855/64, 1d RED BROWN SG 43/44, Pl.107, KP-PK, Used
ABOUT THE STAMPS
For the Great Britain Queen Victoria 1d Penny Red (four-corner-letter issue, catalogued as SG43/SG44), there is nothing inherently rare or highly valuable about Plate 107. It is considered a standard, relatively common plate from this series, which used plates ranging from 71 up to 225.
However, there are a few important contexts and details to keep in mind regarding why Plate 107 might come up:
Potential Confusion with the 1841 Imperforate Issue (SG8). If you are researching Plate 107 and seeing high prices or references to a "rare variety," you might be looking at a completely different stamp. The earlier 1841 imperforate Penny Red (SG8) also had a Plate 107. On that specific earlier plate, certain stamp positions (such as 'SI' and 'SJ') feature a famous and highly valuable "Inverted 'S'" error where the corner letter 'S' was accidentally punched upside down. This error does not apply to your SG43/44 four-corner-letter stamp.
Some specific examples of SG43/44 Plate 107 carry a premium if they feature a rare commercial underprint on the back. For instance, examples have been found with a security underprint from the Victorian firm Copestake, Moore, Crampton & Co., which was used by businesses to prevent employee theft of stamps.
