GB QUEEN VICTORIA 1855-57, 2d BLUE, Sg.34, Plate 5, K-J, Alphabet II, Used
ABOUT THE STAMPS
GB Queen Victoria 1855-57, SG 34, Plate 5, Alphabet II, Perforation 14
Stamp with perforation alignment misalignment.
When these early stamps were perforated in the 1850s, the sheets were fed manually through the perforating machines. The alignment was frequently off-centre, causing the horizontal perforations to cut directly into the bottom inscription ("TWO PENCE") and leaving a very large margin at the top. While dramatic, it is an expected centre variant rather than a high-value printing error.
Letters: K (Left) and J (Right).
Row: K represents the 11th row down from the top of the sheet (since A=1, B=2... K=11).
Column: J represents the 10th column from the left side of the sheet (A=1... J=10)
