GB QUEEN VICTORIA 1855, 2d DEEP BLUE, Sg.34, Pl.5, T-L, Alphabet III, Used
ABOUT THE STAMPS
What are this stamp issues:
- The Major Vertical Shift (Mis-perforation)
The most striking element is the severe vertical mis-perforation. The sheet was fed into the perforation machine entirely out of alignment, causing the punch lines to drop too low. This cleanly sliced through the top portion of the frame, shifting the text box down so that "TWO PENCE" appears at both the very top and very bottom edges of a single stamp.
2. A Significant Specimen Shift (Printed Variety)
Beyond the misplaced holes, the ink design itself shows a severe horizontal layout shift.
- Left and right borders: the intricate white engine-turned lattice work pattern is heavily cut off on the left side, while an extra wide gap of unprinted blue margin is left exposed on the right side.
- This means the paper or the printing cylinder shifted slightly during the actual ink transfer step at Perkins Bacon, before it even reached the faulty perforation machine..
